James Coleman

“I’m trying to bring a positive image into peoples’ lives – something that will inspire them. Day to day we all need an escape or place of refuge and that’s what I like to paint.” – James Coleman

James Coleman’s interest in the film making and fine art world started in his youth and continues to this very day. Born in Hollywood, California in 1949, Coleman was just 20 years of age when he began his career with Walt Disney Studios.

Entering his art into the studio art show displayed hi potential and he was welcomed into Walt Disney Productions as an Artist Apprentice and soon graduated into a Background Artist and then to Background Department Supervisor. His work can be seen in such films as, ‘Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too’, ‘The Rescuers’, ‘Mickey’s Christmas Carol’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to name a few. Coleman styled and worked on twelve films and over thirty short subjects in his career with Disney. Even after leaving Disney in 1991 after twenty-two years of beautiful work Coleman continues with his passion. He now produces impressionistic, oil, watercolour, gouache and pastel fine art works with vibrant colours and exquisite detail. As a naturalist and environmentalist his passion and interest can truly be felt in his work and his pieces highly sought after around the world.
